What is advertising?

design is brightly coloured like the range of sweets and they incorporate the characters - Miss sweetly and Major Quality 

patriotism in the names - sweet for woman and quality for man and success of the man.

all characters are seen as higher class through the suits and painting.

dilemma - the dilemma is showing how the advert has different meanings, the man either has a choice of the sweets and the women, but the women has be objectified to look like the sweets.


How does the quality street advert use image and text to create meanings?


The main image shows a man in the middle of two girls holding a tin of quality street, the two girls are kissing him on the cheeks while taking a sweet each. if you actually look at the girls, you can see that they're wearing the same colours as the sweets. the girl on the left is wearing a read and white top with a green skirt, representing the chocolate strawberry cup. while the girl on the right is wearing a red dress and had blonde hair (symbolising gold), representing the Harrogate toffee.

  1. her facial expression shows a positive feeling about sport for the female audience because she looks happy and not bothering about anyone around her and that encourages other women to do it aswell because thats how they will also feel.
