Raheem Sterling has been high in football since he was 17, he came from Jamaica when he was 5 so thats why he can play for England, he was the most expensive player when Manchester brought him.

one Chelsea match in December 2018 he was taunted with racist comments so that weekend he spoke up about it.

Gender

The choice to represent Sterling topless with his tattoos on show reinforces the stereotype of men as having to be hyper masculine, strong and muscular.

Using a hugely successful black cover star as their dominant image , GQ is presenting a role model for its readers , someone to aspire to be.

Cover analysis

Media language has been used in many different ways to create different meanings. Firstly, the main image shows Malala. it uses a medium close-up shot because if it was just of her face we would think the hijab was just a hood or something. 

the cover lines show an anti women thing for example the cover line "fighting talk" suggests its anti-sterotypical, this links to the women who are reading it want to be strong.

The layout is in a 'z' shape because naturally thats the way your eyes go when you read and its a stereotype for magazines. By them purposely putting 'vogue' over her instead of behind her could show an aspect of power.  because they could of easily put it behind her as we would know what it says.

2a - social context = what was going on in society at the time the text was written.

social contexts influence magazines because they need it to be relevant so people would buy it.

2b - ethnicity is a characterisation of people based on having a shared culture (race)
